EXPECTATIONS AND DISAPPOINTMENT
It is easier to go through life with low expectations.
The lower the bar, the easier it is to reach. People expect less of you, and that is easy to live up to; but, what if you were meant for more?
Working with Dart, I can feel his resistance to change. His resistance to raising the expectations on himself. The more we work, the more we accomplish, the more we both know what he can do, the higher the expectations placed on him.
That can be an uncomfortable feeling.
Once those expectations are raised, people assume it is set in stone. We have done something before. So, a new floor on our performance is established… right?
That would be nice; but, life doesn’t always take a trajectory upwards and to the right.
Life is a series of ups and downs.
Progress is raising our expectations (and standards) for ourself; but, appreciating we may fall short at times. Those shortfalls aren’t permanent.
What is important it to acknowledge where we are, have an unwavering belief in what we are capable of, and continuing to take steps forward (no matter how large or small).
